The only 16-0 regular season ever played. Two more wins in the playoffs — and the one red cell at the end is the championship game. Eighteen and one.
Cleveland, 1948 (AAFC)15-0
Pro football’s other perfect run: 14-0 in the All-America Football Conference, then the title game won. The NFL absorbed the franchise two years later.

Unbeaten and untied through thirteen, then lost the championship game. The same story struck the same franchise in 1942: 11-0, then a title-game defeat.

Why 17-0 still hasn’t happened
The regular season grew to seventeen games in 2021, and nobody has run the new table: the best 17-game record so far is 15-2, set in 2024, and three different teams finished 14-3 in 2025. Before the modern era, the earliest leagues saw unbeaten seasons with ties — Akron’s 8-0-3 in 1920, Canton’s 10-0-2 and 11-0-1 back to back, Green Bay’s 12-0-1 in 1929 — champions all, from the years before a championship game existed.
